Contented Child is a company dedicated to ‘inspiring babies’ senses’. A mother with a passion for natural toys, set up Contented Child in 2005 after educating herself on the benefits of sensory and child led play. After successfully providing treasure baskets to children’s centres, nurseries and parents in the UK and abroad, our range has expanded to include a collection of natural products which offer fantastic, fun, early-learning experiences.
In today’s society where technology, competitiveness and social pressure are such powerful forces, parents can easily forget about, or may not be confident enough, to go ‘back to basics’.
People often comment about a child discarding a present and preferring to play with the box it came in. But, rather than following the child’s interest, the box is frequently taken away and the child is encouraged to play with the discarded (plastic) toy.
Contented Child aims to provide simple, classic, natural toys that engage, enrich and stimulate the senses – not overload or dull them. Cardboard boxes optional!
All of Contented Childs toys are hand made. The wooden toys are all handmade by Camphill from English hardwoods and have been produced to meet with the toy safety standards of the European Union. The mobiles are screen printed in non-fading, non-toxic colours and handmade in the USA.
Our treasure baskets remain true to the original concept devised by Elinor Goldschmied and provide a broad range of items to stimulate all five senses.
Camphill Communities in England and Wales offer opportunities for people with learning disabilities, mental health problems and other special needs to live, learn and work with others of all abilities in an atmosphere of mutual care and respect.
As part of the economic life of its communities the Camphill Village Trust has developed a range of high quality craft products. The wide variety of activity involved in the production processes create many opportunities for individuals to discover their practical and artistic skills and thus make a contribution to community life.
